Opis
On Friday, Hotel Forum is throwing open its doors once again to welcome a spectrum of sounds from across the globe. In the Ballroom, we keep it close to home at first, starting with a set from Tercet Imperial, a trio who rethink the oberek, a well-known Polish folk dance, using synthesizers, drum machines and a knowledge of folk narratives from Asia and Africa. Then long-time collaborators Iglooghost and daisy* (fka BABii) cement their friendship with their new Cyst project, crossing IDM with underground hip-hop production. A true meeting of minds, PPP unites Melbourne’s DJ Plead, Brooklyn’s DJ Python and Milan’s Piezo, who follow their woozy debut "Bborn Again" with a slinky live set. NYC-based poet, DJ and artist Juliana Huxtable and Berlin icon JASSS will be performing b2b.. Over in the Chandelier Room, Worldpeace DMT open with their shapeshifting project, now a collaboration between London’s Leo Fincham and the Femcels’ Rowan Miles, which might be psych, might be folk, might be punk, might be something else altogether. Nashville-based artist username and Portland producer Marsh crane play a b2b that follows their collaborative debut "OVERTIME", a footwork-inspired buzz of trap, IDM and experimental rhythms. Representing the UK’s deep underground, Everything Is Psychedelic pairs MC Tony Bontana with London-based producer The Psychedelic Ensemble – a neon-hued universe of wild samples, drones, freeform raps, screams and jagged, distorted beats. Mexico’s Siete Catorce shows why he’s your favorite producer’s favorite producer with a selection of his latest forward-facing percussive constructions, and Nyege Nyege Tapes’ Serokolo 7 shuttles us to Limpopo in the north of South Africa, reviving and updating mapanta, a trance-inducing sound that echoed through the region in the 1980s. South London-based DJ and producer re:ni, who’s released on Ilian Tapes, Timedance and her own re:lax imprint, follows the bass through jungle, electro and psychedelic techno. Down in 89, take a break from the chaos with a set from Dagmar Zuniga, the Nicaraguan-American artist who wowed critics with their stunning debut album "in filth your mystery is a kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music", a collection of lo-fi folk songs that will appeal to anyone into Smerz or Cindy Lee.
